Imagining the sounds of Dovre, Besseggen, Narvik & Steilia the namesakes of Holzweiler’s hero down jackets
Like buildings, bridges, and the human body – mountains have natural frequencies. Slow, subtle vibrations shaped by geology, geometry and geographical location.
With the help of AI, we’ve estimated the natural frequencies of some of our most beloved Norwegian mountainous regions; Besseggen, Dovre, Narvik and Steilia, which inspired the names of Holzweiler’s most beloved hero down jackets.
The team has blended each mountain's enhanced resonance frequency (in Hz) with field recordings captured in October. Resulting in handcrafted compositions which immerse us in an audiovisual fantasy, where distorted sounds of technology collide with the beauty of Norwegian nature. This is a new way to experience a mountain, not by looking at it, but by listening to it.
Stetind’s monolithic granite body creates a steady, grounded vibration. Dense material and a tall, slender profile keep the tone slow but defined.
A narrow, elevated ridge between two lakes, Besseggen responds quickly. Its slender form produces a light, agile frequency.
Short and compact, Steilia carries very little inertial weight. Its small scale delivers a fast, bright natural frequency.
